Part-time Faculty Positions


DePaul University invites expressions of interest for a pool of qualified Part Time Faculty to teach courses in a variety of disciplines across all 10 colleges and schools. Individuals may enter expressions of interest by submitting their credentials to any posting for which they are qualified to teach. Postings are organized by college/school and department. Screening of individuals in the pool is ongoing, depending on curricular need and funding. Individuals will be contacted by the department if they reach the finalist stage for teaching a particular course or set of courses. The pool will remain in place until the closing date specified in the posting details; those interested in remaining in the pool beyond that time must resubmit. All individuals in the pool will be notified by email when the posting is closed.

Responsibilities:

The School of Design within the Jarvis College of Computing and Digital Media at DePaul University invites applicants for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to begin in September 2023. Job responsibilities include teaching, conducting research or creative activity, and providing service to the School of Design and the broader institution. The successful candidate will be appointed as a faculty member in the School of Design and will have teaching responsibilities in the area of Graphic Design, with opportunities to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Who We Are

Located in the heart of Chicago, the School of Design prides itself on nurturing a diverse body of students to become visionary designers who will become leaders in their fields. The School of Design uniquely comprises a range of design disciplines (graphic, game, UX, industrial) working closely alongside one another. We are interested in applicants with a focus in graphic design who can foster collaborations with students and colleagues across the school. Our faculty builds bridges within and outside DePaul and engages in community outreach that reflects DePaul's Vincentian Mission. The school has a nationally ranked graphic design program with a faculty engaged in diverse practices from design futures and radical technologies to brand strategy, illustration, and type design. Faculty in the School of Design are given many forms of support to develop their careers. Faculty have access to cutting-edge equipment and lab spaces, including two well-equipped makerspaces with facilities for fabricating wood, metal, plastics, soft goods, and electronics; a print lab; recording, film, stop-motion animation, and motion-capture studios; and several VR and AR production spaces. The position features well-paid compensation and support for exhibiting and presenting work at festivals, galleries, museums, and conferences. Colleagues in the School of Design program are dedicated to mutual success and growth, and we are interested in someone who will add new dimensions to our programs.

Required Qualifications:

We are seeking candidates with strong typography skills and expertise in any areas related to graphic design. Qualified candidates should have a terminal degree (MFA, MDes, or equivalent) in graphic design or a related field. A proven commitment to quality teaching l, an active record of professional creative practice, and evidence of working collaboratively are required. Ideal applicants will be able to teach both theoretical and practical hands-on courses, will have experience in design research, and be motivated to work with faculty and students on building curriculum and leading school-wide initiatives.
