Overview:
Princeton University Campus Recreation seeks to improve the health and well-being of the University community through the core principles of fitness and wellness, healthy competition, lifelong skill development, and community-building. These guiding principles aim to improve the quality of life on campus and strengthen the ties between and among undergraduates, graduate students, faculty/staff, and community. Campus Recreation provides educational and leadership opportunities through instructional programs, intramural activities, sport club teams, and student employment for diverse levels of skill and ability.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Campus Recreation for Programming, the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation, Programming is responsible for the overall administration and assessment of the sport club program, which includes recreational, competitive, and elite level teams. This role will also serve in an administrative capacity during the planning and implementation of the summer day camp program. These structured activity areas serve the needs of students, faculty, staff and guests of the University. The position will supervise the Coordinator of Recreational Programs, Rugby/Summer Camp, as well as student and casual hourly employees.
Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the Associate Director to properly manage all fiscal aspects of the sport club program.
  • Interact with representatives of over 30 sport club programs, fostering good communication and assisting in the development of individual club budgets.
o Track revenues and expenditures.
o Assist in the annual budget preparation for all Sports Clubs.
o Assist in the coordination of all sport club travel.
  • In conjunction with the Coordinator of Recreational Programming, Rugby/Summer Camp, support/oversight of elite level club teams, which currently only consists of the Men’s Rugby Club.
  • Understand and comply with Princeton University Finance and Treasury Office and Athletics/Campus Recreation policies.
o On-board suppliers with the Finance and Treasury Office.
o Process and reconcile purchase card, travel card, purchase order and non-purchase
order payments for all purchases in timely manner.
o Process check requests for league/tournament entries and officials.
  • Co-advise (alongside Coordinator) the Sport Club Council and lead training and development opportunities for student leadership.
  • Communicate all department and university risk management policies to participants. Assist in the development of Risk Management Program to ensure a safe activity environment.
  • Monitor inventory and order as necessary, all sport and other equipment to complete job responsibilities.
  • Coordinate and assist with University fundraising efforts and programming related to fundraising.
  • Work alongside Dillon Gym Facilities staff to schedule facility usage for Sport Clubs.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Director of Campus Recreation, assist with all administrative tasks required to implement the Summer Day Camp program.
o Assist planning and implementation of the summer day camp operations and programming.
o Share administrator on duty responsibilities during camp hours of operation.
  • Assist the Associate Director and other colleagues with all departmental programs and special events.
  • Participate in a unified team approach in the delivery of programs and services.
  • Possess a personal commitment to a healthy lifestyle and Campus Recreation.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Campus Recreation, Programming.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Possess a personal commitment to student and leadership development.
  • Highly organized.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • 3 or more years’ experience in recreation, preferably in higher education.
  • Must have the ability to lift at least 45 pounds to waist level.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid/AED certified (or be certified prior to employment)
  • Preferred certification as an Instructor level to teach CPR/First Aid/AED
  • Must be knowledgeable with and abide by the NJ Youth Camp Standards (N.J.A.C. 8:25).
  • Ability to work well independently. Initiate and implement new ideas through to completion.
  • Ability to work evening, weekends, and holidays as the schedule dictates.
  • Must have possess a current passport that allows for international travel with the teams.
