Position Summary:


We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as an Assistant Director-Research Operations.

In this role, the successful candidate's primary responsibility is to plan and manage the Department of Cell Biology and Institute for Regenerative Medicine administrative, operational and managerial initiatives, with a particular focus on: (1) developing, formalizing, and communicating business processes and standard operating procedures for the administrative team and research lab managers/research associates; (2) identifying and implementing new programs that boost engagement, productivity, and the reputation of faculty and staff; (3) managing the assignment, use, and maintenance of assigned research space and facilities, including overseeing research labs (e.g., move of all labs into the new Skirball building in 2024/2025) and ensuring the Institute is fully prepared for emergencies; and (4) managing data, processes, and communications related to research lab operations.This role supports departmental leadership in providing advance program coordination function across multiple areas in the department related to efficient research operations.


Job Responsibilities:


      • Develops, implements, and refines, through feedback and process analysis, standard operating procedures;
      • Creates and maintains materials for staff and faculty onboarding and succession planning;
      • Analyzes operational performance and conducts staff surveys, presents findings and proposals for improvements to the Executive Director and Cell Biology leadership, and implements and manages change;
      • Organizes weekly Institute administrative team meetings and quarterly meetings for lab managers/research associates, including scheduling speakers and topics in order to ensure communication of important Medical Center and Institute policy, process, and system updates as well as to ensure staff engagement;
      • Works closely with the Executive Director to implement staff engagement and recognition programs and activities;
      • Oversees the strategic utilization of administrative and research space for the Institute, including planning for the new Skirball building;
      • Assess short and long term space and facilities needs;
      • Interfaces with key contacts in RED+F and OSR on complex renovation and construction projects as well as on emergency repairs/upgrades;
      • Works with EM+ER to develop and roll out policies and preparedness training/information to all personnel in the Institute, including updating and communicating emergency contact information;
      • Updates and maintains the Institute’s space survey data and ensures that RED+F and the Dean’s Dashboard have up-to-date data with respect to research space;
      • Oversees the management of projects within the Institute related to facilities, operations, and engagement;
      • Manages lab research operations for faculty onboarding and offboarding, including assisting with quotes for new equipment, budgets, and space management.
      • Manages and tracks communications with asset management.
      • Serves as the point person for all compliance related to research lab operations.
      • Manages all shared capital equipment for the department, including obtaining service and PM quotes, preparing and tracking budgets for capital expenditures.
      • Manages indirectly an administrative coordinator with the opportunity to grow managerial oversight to additional direct reports.
      • Prepares presentations for and delivering presentations to Department leadership and lab managers/research associates as requested or needed.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a graduate degree, preferable in a scientific discipline, health care administration, business administration, public health, or a related field, along with a combination of progressive responsibility and 3-5 years of experience coordinating projects /or facilities.

Preferred Qualifications:
Previous wet lab experience is highly desired. The candidate must have strong leadership, communication, interpersonal, organizational, people management, project management, strategic planning, customer service, teamwork, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Preferred candidates will be diplomatic, action-oriented, with experience managing aggressive deadlines, and have strong technical proficiencies (e.g. highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate across all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $92,066.00 - $93,194.40 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
