TITLE: Elementary School Principal

TYPE OF POSITION: Full-time (1.0); anticipated start date 7/1/2023; salary commensurate with experience (range $130,000-$145,000/year)

LOCATION: Hopkins Elementary School, Hopkinton, Massachusetts

AREA OF CONSIDERATION: All qualified candidates

The Elementary School Principal is responsible for the overall administration of the school, and provides a school-wide leadership model. The Principal will use his/her leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student, with the goal of establishing and maintaining a safe and effective learning environment in the school, where each student is challenged in an atmosphere that promotes intellectual development, creativity, and inquiry.The Principal reports to the Superintendent of Schools, and supervises and evaluates both professional administrative and teaching staff.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Licensed, or eligible for licensures as a Principal/Assistant Principal by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, to include Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) endorsement;
  • Master's Degree preferred in Education or a related field;
  • A minimum of five (5) years teaching experience;
  • Successful administrative experience in an education setting;
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and in conformity with state licensure requirements.

DUTIES:

  • Initiates, designs, implements, and manages programs to meet specific needs of the school;
  • Assists in the development, revision and evaluation of a guaranteed and viable curriculum, and schedules classes within established guidelines to meet student needs;
  • Prepares or supervises the preparation of reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school's administration;
  • Works with various members of the central administrative staff on district issues, such as transportation and special services;
  • Maintains active and positive relationships with students, parents, and the community at large;
  • Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate in the school;
  • Assumes responsibility for his or her own professional growth and development through membership and participation in professional organizations, attendance at regional, state, and national meetings, and enrollment in advanced courses;
  • Supervises the preparation of master schedule;
  • In consultation with department heads, Director of Secondary Education, faculty, and School Council, is responsible for compiling the annual budget requests;
  • Serves with parent, faculty, and student groups as requested in advancing educational and related activities and objectives;
  • Working with Director of Buildings & Grounds, assumes responsibility for all aspects of building maintenance and safety to ensure a clean, safe environment in which to work and learn;
  • Other duties as required.
